Paediatric Dysphagia Special Interest Group
The Paediatric Dysphagia Special Interest Group is a group of Speech Language Therapists working in or with a particular interest in the area of feeding and swallowing difficulties in infants and children.
Dates for this group in 2008 are Feb 25, May 19, Aug 18, Nov 17, all Mondays 3-4pm. Those attending need to contact Laura Wells on [email protected], to give Laura an idea of numbers for each meeting.
Dysphagia Special Interest Group (Dysphagia SIG)
We are a group of Auckland SLTs who work with clients with dysphagia and meet four times a year. We meet to develop our knowledge in dysphagia and related issues. Some of the topics undertaken recently included: the effect of spinal injuries and neck braces on swallowing, dysphagia and psychiatric illness, and a review of the aging swallow. Regular reviews of Modified Barium Swallow videos are undertaken.
New members are welcome to join us. I would be interested in forming links with other Dysphagia SIGs that are running in New Zealand.
Please contact Deborah McKellar ([email protected]) for more information.
Traumatic Brain Injury SIG
The TBI SIG meets bimonthly in Auckland, seeking to develop the knowledge and skills of therapists working with clients with TBI. We also occasionally look at more general cognitive impairment such as encephalopathies and right hemisphere language impairment. TBI topics weve looked at include dysphagia in TBI clients, AAC, right hemisphere impairment and neuroanatomy (featuring a dissection).
Were keen to welcome new members to the SIG. Weve also had interest from people in Wellington and Northland, and would be interested in looking at forming a national SIG, maybe using teleconference.
